I don't know how it works for the gibbon language, but man can combine sounds, can combine combinations of sounds etc. So we have langiage. Also human languages have differences in tones and sounds. We can express much more than gibbons! I suppose that gibons don't tell stories or philosophize about the meaning of language.
As far as I know, nobody knows how languages developed. That's one reason why the study of the gibbon language is important, for it is a little step on understanding the evolution of language. Of course, language didn't develop by it self. The function of the gibbon language is warning against danger, sharing facts with other gibbons (important for a social being), sharing emotions etc.
Thank you for your comment,
HenkHbdWhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05358668804898517772noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6398699458159756321.post-7216007416579620712016-01-31T11:34:46.920+01:002016-01-31T11:34:46.920+01:00I was wondering: if gibbons can express their want...I was wondering: if gibbons can express their wants and needs, warnings and other everything that humans express by language, only by a "hoo" sound in 450 different tones of voice, then, can we, humans, use several words to express what we want and if so, then why do we need so many words and how did the language develop? Because, if there is no strong stimulus, nothing develops just "by it self". What do you think, Henk?Gracehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07036358647724858140noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6398699458159756321.post-59955276783231294742016-01-26T12:41:52.025+01:002016-01-26T12:41:52.025+01:00Hi Henk,

I also like the syllogism in this article. And I didn't know that so many Philosophenwege can be found here in Germany. I have checked that we don't have a Philosophenweg in Krefeld.

FasulyeFasulyehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17760929188490295948noreply@blogger.com
