Random quote
Let us not seek our disease out of ourselves; ’tis in us, and planted in our bowels; and the mere fact that we do not perceive ourselves to be sick, renders us more hard to be cured.
Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592)

A while ago, I played with a Rolling Stones song title while writing a continuum piece and some other work. It is not as eloquent as your quote today, but has a similar content and intent:

You can't always get what you want, you don't always want what you get.
