Of course. The origins of the equality movement and civil rights in the United States go back further than the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Further than the Civil War. The push and pull of this only came to a bloody massacre in this country after blood was shed elsewhere and an uprising of conscience here told us there was something 'just wrong' about the way we were doing business. Yet, today, people remain stubbornly unconvinced and generationally bigoted. It is appalling but it is the separate reality in which many continue to live. Probably for any foreseeable future...
