Random quote
The photographic “shock” … consists less in traumatizing than in revealing what was so well hidden that the actor himself was unaware or unconscious of it.
Roland Barthes (1915-1980)

There are many terms I am unfamiliar with. But, as with former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart, I know what pornography is if I see it. I have had photographic shock before---not often, because little surprises me... and most of those surprises were decades ago. Purveyors of photo shock are promoters of responsive
consciousness, whether intending to be or not. This also returns memory to the adage about *things hidden in plain sight*, to which the quote may also refer, if but loosely. I have held that though humans are conscious creatures, not all are responsively so. Alluding to a charming poster from the past, featuring three baby raccoons, the caption read: *There are three kinds of people. Those who make things happen, those who watch things happen, and, those who WONDER what happened*. A lot of people these days fit into that last category.
