We live in a possessed world. And we know it. It would not be unexpected for anyone if the madness suddenly broke out in a frenzy that would leave our poor European humanity in numbness and foolishness, with the engines still spinning and the flags still fluttering, but the mind gone.
Johan Huizinga (1872-1945)

The comic book character, Howard the Duck, lived *in a world he never made*. IMHO, this "possessed world" of ours is our doing. The person quoted, lived and died, before many of us (including me) were born, and would not have recognized THIS possessed world. Nor would he have understood it. No news there.
Huizinga was a famous Dutch historian. He wrote the words quoted for warning against the rising nazism. Now we see again related ideologies and executers of such ideologies taking power. Therefore, I thought that this quote would still be relevant. Thank you for your comment.
Please forgive my ignorance. I did not know Huizinga was Dutch...no disrespect intended.. History tends to be repetitive. Example: racism never goes away...it abates, from time, and later regains force, like some tropical storms.
